DESCRIPTION

If En Plo did not already exist, we would now be talking about the masterpiece of Greek rock music. The above observation does not aim to play down the value of this record, it merely shows our great admiration for the latest work of Ntinos Sadikis. We had great expectations and we were not let down. It is quite the opposite actually, since in this record we can find the best song he’s ever written, Pediki Thei (Childhood Gods), to my humble opinion that is. To be honest, the biggest advantage of his first work compared to this one, was the element of surprise.

From the first verses of the song Fantasia already, one can see that things are different this time. Harsh and real. Suppose that the first album was an impressionist painting, this one is a photo in black and white, changing at times into colour, as if to express the psychological ups and downs of both the artist and his audience. The guitars are more solid, the drums (electronic) are louder, the voice stands out naked. The sound is definitely simpler, production the same, rendering this work more straight forward. Both brass and strings, wherever found in the record, are substantial elements of the songs, not simple ornaments. It couldn’t be any other way.

Sadikis’ songs are absolute. You either take them literally or you pass them by. They leave no room for misunderstandings, they hide nothing. Their symbolisms are so strong that they speak clearer than reality itself. They are so personal that they belong to everybody. No other song writer uses first person as effectively and convincingly as Sadikis does.

We will never find out what would ‘ve happened if Ntinos Sadikis was more of a “professional”. Maybe we would ‘ve had another three of four amazing records like this one. Maybe we ‘d have nothing. We are who we are and even if something relatively small ever changed, the picture would not be the same any more. Let him continue the way he ‘s learned.
